Bundesliga side Union Berlin have hit out at Joey Barton after his tweet which compared two female ITV pundits to serial killers.

Union Berlin quote tweeted a statement released by ITV which defended their pundits, Eni Aluko and Lucy Ward, after Barton launched an attack on X (formerly Twitter). Barton had described Aluko and Ward as "the Fred and Rose West of football commentary" in yet another baseless and sexist attack on female pundits.

In response to Barton, Union Berlin said: "For any of our fans in England following this depressing sh*t who may not be sure, we are proud to have women working in our men’s departments as we are to have men working in our women’s departments. Football is universal, chauvinism cannot win. Eisern!!!"

Barton's ridiculous attacks on female pundits have been ongoing for a number of weeks now – prompting wide and deserved criticism. The former Premier League player is currently unemployed since his sacking by Bristol Rovers, and he is expected to remain out of work for the foreseeable.
