Charlton predicted XI with three potential new signings

Charlton Athletic have extended Lee Bowyer’s contract, as reported on the club’s official channels, but the hope will be that the announcements do not stop there.

Andre Green is currently the only player that Charlton have successfully recruited, bringing him in on loan from Aston Villa, so they will be looking to make further signings before the deadline – especially after losing Conor Gallagher.

The Addicks currently sit six points above the relegation zone, so will be looking to do all they can in order to maintain their Championship status past the current campaign.

With that in mind, FFC has predicted what their lineup could look like with the addition of three potential signings that have been reported.

Dillon Phillips is the undisputed number 1 at Charlton, having started all 29 of the club’s league games this season, so it is unlikely that the Addicks will be looking for someone to usurp him.

Naby Sarr and Tom Lockyer remain in the team, though the latter of those will be moved into the centre from the right of the back three.

This could see Kean Bryan come into the back three alongside them if he does join, after it was reported by Alan Nixon that the Addicks, alongside Huddersfield Town, have been alerted by the fact that Sheffield United are willing to let him leave on loan.

Who is that?!?! Can you name all of these obscure Charlton players?

Alfie Doughty and Adam Matthews are included as the wing-backs, with the former acting as the more attacking option – so far, he has got one goal and three assists this season, while also averaging 1.3 key passes and 1.7 dribbles per game.

Josh Cullen mans the centre of midfield and is joined in this lineup by Rangers man Greg Docherty. The Herald have reported that Charlton lead the race to sign the 23-year-old on loan, after Sunderland’s attempts to do so hit a snag.

Andre Green is utilised behind the main striker, Lyle Taylor, with Marcus Maddison also operating in the areas around the Montserrat international. This comes after it was reported on Sky Sports Transfer Centre (23/01/2020, 17:19) that Charlton are in talks with the Peterborough United man.

What should be encouraging about this lineup is the showing of depth within it when everyone is fit, as the likes of Macauley Bonne, Jonny Williams, Darren Pratley and Adedeji Oshilaja all miss out.

Meanwhile, Bowyer has already shown that he will use his new contract as a springboard rather than a safety net.
