Lee Bowyer has signed a new three-year contract extension to remain as Charlton Athletic manager, as reported by the club’s official channels.
There was no resting for the 43-year-old as he led the Addicks to a 0-0 draw against promotion-chasing Fulham.
However, the manager was looking further than that and has already shown that he won’t be resting on his laurels after being rewarded with the new deal.
That is because he is looking to influence Lyle Taylor, with the club attempting to tie him down to a new deal to stay at the Valley, as his current contract ends in the summer of 2020.

Speaking after the Fulham game, when Bowyer was asked by London News Online whether his actions could influence Taylor, he said: “It might make a difference, I don’t know. I’ll have to speak to Lyle – he’s said a little joke in the dressing room after the game.
“I’ll speak to him after the weekend, the players are going to have a couple of days off now because they’ve earned it – they’ve worked so hard. After that I’ll chat to Lyle and see where his head is at. I’ll speak to his agent and see where his head is at.”
The Montserrat international has been an integral player for the team this campaign, getting seven goals and an assist from 14 Championship appearances.
Who is that?!?! Can you name all of these obscure Charlton players?
Therefore, it should not be surprising that Bowyer will be looking to keep him at the Valley, but for the manager to make a move so soon after completing his own deal says a lot about his attitude, towards both the player and ambitions held for the club.
It will be hoped that Charlton can also make some signings on top of keeping Taylor, as they aim to maintain their Championship status, but Bowyer is already showing that he is using his new contract as a springboard, rather than a safety net.
Meanwhile, Charlton should be concerned by the form of one of their targets.
